To give your game a chance at success, don’t forget to keep an eye on already successful indie projects. Analyze their gameplay mechanics, artistic styles, narratives, and overall designs. Pay attention to recurring elements such as genres, themes, or unique features that seem to resonate with players.

While it’s critical to identify trends, blindly adhering to them might not guarantee success. Instead, focus on understanding why certain trends are popular and how they align with your game’s vision. • Impostor Syndrome: Both seasoned and novice developers suffer from this syndrome, and conquering it is quite complex. It’s this syndrome that suggests your skills are insufficient and your ideas are unwanted. It hinders your ability to objectively assess your capabilities, ideas, and potential.
  To overcome this syndrome or at least coexist with it, it’s crucial to interact with developer colleagues and players on forums or social media. Ask questions and seek feedback on the skills, knowledge, and ideas you’re uncertain about. Experienced colleagues can help clarify technical aspects, while players can provide valuable opinions on design, music, story, and overall execution. Such an approach significantly simplifies the game development process, instills confidence in your abilities, and, additionally, makes you more noticeable, attracting your audience’s attention.
• Handling Criticism: The first point naturally transitions into the second. You’ve presented your concept art or promo video and asked the audience to evaluate your work. However, you suddenly notice several harsh reviews stating your design is awful and that you’d be better off doing something else.
  In such a situation, it’s easy to feel disheartened, and the impostor syndrome can intensify this feeling. However, it’s crucial to understand that such reviews aren’t genuine criticism; they’re more an expression of negative emotions that someone poured into the first available post. Therefore, such comments can confidently be brushed aside.
  Constructive criticism, the kind worth considering, is always substantiated with clear arguments and devoid of insults. The person points out what they like and dislike, expressing their thoughts gently and without harshness.
